The Month Of March

As I said in the last post, this month has two very important birthdays: Mum's and Dad's. I missed my dad's as I am still in Spain and I will be home two nights before Mum's so that first weekend that I am home (23-24) is going to be a birthday weekend. On the Saturday, Dad is making his homemade steak and kidney pie with homemade chips and peas (I've made him promise that this will happen) and I will give him his prezzies. On the Sunday, it is Mum's birthday so a late lunch out with the family and more presents etc. etc.

 

Also, this month it is Easter! That means getting fat from a lot of chocolate eggs on top of all the proper English food that I am going to consume over the two weeks I am at home. I swear the thing I talk about most is food.

 

Other than that, I am supposed to be going to Fallas in Valencia next weekend! I still haven't bought my tickets however. I need to do this! 

 

This weekend, I don't know whether to go out, or stay in and sort out my life/save money. Decisions, decisions... It is also Mother's Day on Sunday! I need to send Mum a card and some flowers!

 

I need to get my blogging and writing back on track too! ASAP!

Inspiring

This is not the usual inspiration post full of fashion shoots and editorials that make me want to go out and embrace the world. No, this post features the writers who inspire me.

Of course we have Stephenie Meyer, creator of the Twilight Saga. She is the woman who inspired my writing back in 2008 with the words of her first book. Now look where she's at six years later... The last book is becoming real as we wait for the 18th November when Breaking Dawn comes to cinema screens. In truth, although vampire stories came long before 2005, her stories triggered the theme dark romance that is now an official section in Waterstones' nationwide.

Cassandra Clare. She has created a spectacular and beautiful world that Stephenie Meyer wants to be a part of. I too wish to be a part of that world. As well, the fact that she created a love story that was supposedly between siblings who fell in love before they knew that fact. Any person would read it and think what are you thinking you sick freak? But, instead every reader wanted the Jace and Clary to be together even knowing they were supposedly brother and sister. It takes a true skill to persuade an audience to think that.

Adele Parks is a woman who writes about real lives and the troubles of real women in London. Stories of women who don't want children or those who have affairs make good reading. She is explicit in her sexual and sensual writing and she makes raunchy writing a part of the world we live in today. Afterall it is the great 21st century.

Alice Sebold has written one of the most extraodinary novels of my lifetime: The Lovely Bones. It is beautifully written although it expresses pain and hatred of a man who raped and murdered the narrator Susie Salmon. She is a survivor of rape herself which she tells the story of in her debut: Lucky.

The editor of Britain's number one women's magazine, Jo Elvin is an inspiration. She didn't go to university and yet she is the one who runs Glamour magazine. She worked hard gaining experience in newspapers and small magazines before she came to Britain and became editor's for magazines such as Top of the Pops and Sugar. 

Scarlett Russell, the features and entertainment writer for Glamour. She has the job I want when I grow up. How amazing would it be to go around the world and interview many different kinds of people from soldiers to celebrities in just one year or even in one month for that matter.

So, these are my career inspirations. Notice how all of them are women. Don't get me wrong, I love male writers too but for this post lets keep it female orientated just to show that women can have their dreams and aspirations fulfilled. In this day and age, women are going up the ladder to greatness and I will be a part of that in the writing career in my future.

Glamour Awards

Yes, it was the Glamour Awards on Tuesday night and sorry it has taken so long to post a blog about it. 

As you know, I love Glamour magazine and in the ideal dream world that I think about most days, I would be a features and entertainment writer like Scarlett Russell. I loved her recent work in July 2011s edition (with Adele as the beautiful cover star)! She interviewed some of the Women of the Year winners including:

Look at all those fabulous people that she interviewed and wrote a piece on as a job for the UKs top selling women's magazine! What a life! I'd love to ask her all about it or shadow her for a day. 

Anyway, back to the Glamour Awards...

Of course all the stars looked uber-sexy and glammed up for this huge event! It would be amazing to attend and I would definitely buy some designer dress to wear to the occasion.

The Glamour Awards were also sponsored by one of my favourite things... Pandora. I love my Pandora to pieces and I only need one more charm to complete the bracelet! My friends all chipped in and bought me it as a special gift for my 18th birthday. 

Then, I was given four charms in total from my best friend and parents. It was a beautiful start and I carried on building it. 

Every charm has a specific meaning behind it which is why I love the Memories collection so much as it gives you exactly that.

Prima Ballerina

I was surfing on Twitter and link by link I came across images of Black Swan on Glamourmagazine.co.uk showcasing the two dresses, the two characters and the two personalities of Nina (Natalie Portman).

These beautiful pieces were created by costume designer, Amy Westcott. 

Both pieces distinctly represent each side of Nina's personality; the white dress determines her purity at the beginning of the film whereas the black dress represents what she has become. 

The film itself is a roller coaster of emotion, including lesbian fantasies, phantom dreams, self destruction and a dire passion for dance. 

It is confusing and unpredictable and the end is definitely worth the wait, ending on a high and then plummeting to the ground.

When Black Swan came to the cinemas in January, fashion pages glorified the dancing theme, putting ballerina-esque pieces on its pages and designers filled the runways with floaty chiffon in neutral colours, nude, light pinks and white making every woman look like a Prima Ballerina. 

Hair was twisted into a bun yet again, tight, messy, playful, all the different kinds that fashion has seen over many years. It is a simple up-do used to keep your hair off your face in an elegant and sophisticated way. 

And finally Black Swan even inspired Adidas Shoes for children.

It goes to show that any little girl can be a swan if they wanted to.
