A Dose Of Spanish

Today I received confirmation of Universidad de Murcia. I now have an ID number which I've used to confirm the Orientation Day on the 7th September, and also for my accomodation application form. It's all getting real now!

I'm nervous, excited, scared... but really excited to start a new chapter of my life.

Hopefully, over the next week or so, I'll have confirmation of an apartment, and then I actually know where I'll be living! Me, Mum & Dad are going to fly over together in the first week of September to have a look around, move my one(!!!) suitcase full of clothes, memories, photos etc. into my apartment. Yes, I'll be taking only one suitcase to Spain which will somehow have ten months worth of my life in it! I'll no doubt do a blog on what to take on a ten month excursion! I go over 20 kilos for a week holiday usually so I have no idea how I'm going to fit ten months worth in 20 kilos!

I'll keep you updated as time goes on!

Los Ojos de Julia

Los Ojos de Julia's trailer was introduced to me when I was at my friends house. We were about to watch a Spanish film (as we both do the same course at uni) and just before the film started she said, "I just want to show you a trailer for a new Spanish film that's out." So, after a while of waiting for youtube to work, we watched the trailer and let me tell you, I did not want to go and see it. It looked jumpy and set mostly in the dark which is something that I definitely do not want to watch on the big screen in a room full of strangers who would be likely to see me jump out of my skin! 

I ended up going to FACT cinema in Liverpool, paying (a rip off of) £8.50 and sitting down in a rather comfy purple couch with my friend... right at the front of the huge screen. 

I was nervous. 

The film started and the setting was night time (obviously) with a lot of thunder and lightning (great). Sara, the protagonist's blind twin sister was talking to a corner of darkness and when the lightning flickered there was no-one there. Queue tiny inward shriek. She ended up hanging in the basement after saying "You cannot make me kill myself." 

It was a lie of course and a foot and leg dressed in all black kicked the chair from underneath her. 

That was the beginning, a brief clip of what Julia, Sara's sister was going to encounter. 

Julia knew right from the beginning that something was not right with Sara's "suicide" so she began her own investigation whilst slowly losing her eyesight also.  

It was a rollercoaster and whirlwind clashed together throughout the film. You could say it is obvious who the Invisible Man is but then again, you may not. 

Gruesome in one part and heart pounding throughout.

A definite must see even if you're not interested in Spanish film. It has a great storyline and Guillermo del Torro (Pan's Labyrinth, Hellboy 2) produced it. 

It will also make you realise that the blind in our world must have some difficulty only seeing darkness. It makes you really appreciate them.

Pirate's of the Caribbean 4: Stranger Tides came to cinemas today and my mother and I booked our seats for the 3:10pm viewing.

At first, the screen would black out for minutes on end, something to do with the TSM or something like that...

Anyway, eventually we got to watching an amazing film.

Of course, there had to be a love story entwined in the fantastic action scenes and there wasn't just one, there were two (apart from the romances with the pirate's and their ships).

Finally, Captain Jack Sparrow (the gorgeous Johnny Depp) got his love story with the beautiful Angelica, played by 'La Encantadora', Penélope Cruz. She was an old fling. Well, they truly loved each other no matter how much they said they didn't.

Then, there was the relationship between the boy who had a faith, Philip (Sam Clafin) and a captured man-eating mermaid, Syrena (Astrid Berges-Frisbey). He saved her and she saved him in different ways. The end for them is open to all possibilities as it turned out that the mermaid could walk, but they both went deep into the dark sea together in their last scene.

As I said, action filled the screens with fights between the English, Spanish and BlackBeard's pirates, but there was another group that definitely won a few battles, the mermaids.

The mermaid's faces turned into a vampish style, fangs and different cat-like eyes, just after they had lured a man in and just before they went in for the kill. They jumped, flew, swam and screamed as well as using a whip of some sort to drag people into the dark waters.

It was truly an adventure, a rollercoaster of events as per usual that led up to the climax of the Fountain of Youth.

The Fountain of Youth turned out to be a different element of the world altogether, where the characters rose up through water from the ceiling and landed in a wave of mist. More action occurred as all three voyeurs arrived in the Fountain of Youth together. BlackBeard lived up to be the selfish pirate he was and Jack Sparrow saved his 'damsel in distress'.

As you can see from the images, there are a mixture of emotions that occur throughout the film.

Catch Up

Dear all you bloggers,

It's been over a week since I last posted! The weeks been pretty hectic! I've been doing a lot of procrastinating to be honest with you; I have three essays to perfect and two exams to revise for: Spanish Language and Spanish History. Great.

Plus, as I've been home in Wallasey for the past two and a half weeks, I've been catching up with my friends and family. 

Parties, both in the house and in a hall. 

Shamefully I've only been out out once. Unacceptable. 

This is the book that I have to read: A Concise History of Latin America. You would think that it is completely boring to read but it is actually really interesting although sometimes I just cannot be bothered!

Last night, it was one of my closest friends birthday party, a house party which seem to be all I seem to be going to as all the eighteenths for me were last year! 

This was the two Fazza's at Fazza K's eighteenth last year! 

It is safe to say that we have changed a lot although I don't actually have any pictures of last night as of yet but I'll update of how we look a year later! 

Very different. 

It is amazing how a person can change in a year, even within a few months. And I cannot believe that it has been a year since this! It is crazy! 

So, there is the catch up of a week full of work and parties.
